It’s not rational, John.
This week, I was on MSNBC’s Morning Joe to talk about the federal education funds that the Trump administration has frozen simply because I asked Trump to follow the rule of law at a governor’s breakfast way back in February.
Will you stand strong against Donald Trump with me by contributing any amount right now to the Maine Democratic Party? The work to stand against this administration starts at the state level and they can’t do that work alone »
Here’s the thing: I’ve served as a defense attorney, District Attorney, Attorney General, and Governor, and I have deep respect for the rule of law. So when Trump said that he “is the federal law” at that governor’s breakfast, my jaw dropped.
Every 5th-grade civics student knows that there are three branches of government and the chief executive is responsible for executing the law, not making the law.
Here’s my charge to Donald Trump since he’s suddenly so interested in “protecting” Maine girls and women. If Donald Trump cares about women and girls, he should fight to protect their Social Security, reproductive healthcare, affordable housing — all of the things I’ve spent my career fighting for.
I’m glad that a federal judge is standing up to Trump and following the law, but this fight could be a long one.
John, will you help send the Trump administration a strong message that Mainers believe in the rule of law and not backing down when the going gets tough? Donate any amount now:

Sincerely,
Governor Janet Mills
