FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SUES MAINE
The U.S. Department of Justice on Wednesday announced it is suing Maine over the inclusion of transgender athletes in girls’ sports.
“Maine schools are in danger of losing federal education money so that biological males can play in girls’ sports and utilize private spaces designated for girls,” said House Republican Leader Billy Bob Faulkingham. “Title IX is the law of the land and is there to ensure that women have the same athletic opportunities that men do. I cannot understand the stubborn refusal of our Governor and Attorney General to accept reality and do the right thing for Maine schools and our girls.”
“Legislative Republicans want a solution that protects women’s sports, private spaces and federal education funding,” said Assistant House Republican Leader Katrina Smith. “Republicans have proposed legislation on this issue that protects federal funding and ensures that everyone has the opportunity to compete safely.”
