More rainbow trout being stocked in April

More good fishing opportunities are out there waiting for you this month. Spring stocking of rainbow and cutbow trout began in March, and continues this month in public waters statewide. Many of these larger fish are near or exceeding 12 inches in length! Find a lake near you and bring a friend or family member.

Heat up your fishing with the Midwest Walleye Challenge

Set a challenge for yourself as an angler — and help fish management in Nebraska at the same time. The Midwest Walleye Challenge is a unique fishing tournament where even catching nothing counts as valuable data, as biologists will learn about the status of walleye fisheries from the reports you submit.

Now through June 29, sign up and record your walleye catches. You may win prizes for it; more than $5,000 in prizes will be awarded throughout the competition.

Help us improve: Take trout fishing survey

Nebraska Game and Parks is seeking valuable input from trout anglers, particularly those who fish put-and-take lakes. Take a few minutes and respond to this Game and Parks survey, which will be used to inform future trout management and stocking decisions in Nebraska.

Just caught a fish? Handle with care

Whether you plan to release your catch or keep it, be sure to handle it properly. It's good for the fish's sake and yours! Fish should be handled minimally, though their coat of slime can make that challenging. Here's some tips on what to do, including how to proceed if you want to snap a photo first.
