I can hear them coming down the corridor now. The metal gates clang, the electric prods sting. These are my last moments inside the Manning Beef slaughterhouse, where I've watched my sisters die in ways I can barely describe.
I wasn't the first they came for this morning. I stood there as they took the cow next to me. The loud popping sound of the metal gun they used to shoot her startled me. Some of us take several shots to the head before we stop feeling.
She was still conscious when they started cutting. I watched her try to move away from the knife as they skinned her face. She was aware of everything. Others are stabbed in the throat while still breathing, still suffering, still feeling.
My baby will never see daylight. I've seen what they do with our unborn calves - tossed in piles like garbage. My mother went before me, my sisters went before me, and now they come for me.
It's too late to save me, but you can still save others.
Animal Outlook's investigators have been here, documenting workers:
Butchering us while we're still conscious
Failing to stun us multiple times
Shocking us with electric prods when we collapse in fear
By shining a light on what happens here, you can save lives. You can put an end to these savage practices, hold animal abusers accountable, and help everyone see that eating vegan is the only way to align food choices with ethics. You can change the future for others. Please don't let my death be meaningless.
