Donald Trump is openly defying court orders in refusing to return Kilmar
Abrego Garcia to the US after illegally deporting the legal US resident to
a brutal prison in El Salvador. This is a dangerous precedent that takes
this lawless administration closer to disappearing people – including
American citizens.

Senator Chris Van Hollen has announced that he will travel to El Salvador
Wednesday to check on the well being of Kilmar, who is a constituent.
Shortly after Van Hollen's announcement, Representative Maxwell Frost said
he was willing to go also. Now, Reps. Yassamin Ansari and Robert Garcia
have also signed on to courageously confront Trump's unconstitutional
deportation of Kilmar Abrego head-on.

If Trump gets away with illegally deporting Kilmar, he will likely expand
these authoritarian tactics further. He has already publicly expressed a
desire to send U.S. citizens to El Salvadoran prisons, even suggesting to
El Salvador's president that the country should build five more prisons to
handle the volume.

Despite Trump's acknowledgment of the wrongful deportation, his
administration has refused to act, enabling further abuses of executive
power. But Senator Van Hollen and Representatives Garcia, Frost, and
Ansari refuse to let Trump's authoritarian overreach go unchallenged.

Their visit to El Salvador is about much more than one individual's
wellbeing — it's a direct stand against Trump's dangerous disregard for
constitutional rights and due process.
