Last week I joined folks in Parkland to hold a vigil for a young Black man, Manuel Ellis, who was killed in Tacoma.  It is important we remember Manuel, and join our Black communities who are demanding justice by protesting in solidarity. We have a moral responsibility to act against these injustices, and listen to communities who are hurting. Racism is not an issue foreign to Washington State, it is here, in our own backyard, and we cannot and will not ignore it.

This fight for justice and peace for our Black communities is not new. One of the most humbling experiences of my time in Congress was walking over the Edmund Pettus Bridge with the Honorable Congressman John Lewis on the 55th Anniversary of Black Sunday.

Two great organizations in Washington State that are working hard to take bold action in supporting the Black community are The Tacoma Urban League and Not This Time!. I invite you to join me in supporting these organizations as we work together to act against racial injustices.
