UPDATE: North Carolina Supreme Court ruling could jeopardize legally cast ballots of overseas voters and military members

Team:

Did you see the news about the North Carolina Supreme Court’s ruling on Friday?

It’s the latest development in a case where anti-democracy extremists are working to overturn last November’s state supreme court election, which Justice Allison Riggs won.

For clearly partisan purposes, the losing candidate asked the court to disenfranchise overseas and military voters by cherrypicking which legally cast ballots are counted — sending a shameful message that their votes are questionable – and sadly, the court granted many of his obscene requests.

A.G. Holder’s response called it out loud and clear: “This shocking decision abandons the judiciary’s most basic role, to protect the rights of the people, and sanctions an outright attempt to steal an election.”

In the face of attacks like this, we must keep fighting for our democracy. At the All On The Line campaign, we’ll continue mobilizing grassroots activists in North Carolina and across the nation to fight for fair elections and fair maps. Now, how did we get to this ruling? After Justice Allison Riggs won re-election in November, her opponent, Jefferson Griffin, challenged more than 65,000 legally valid ballots, in an attempt to overturn the election results.

As a result, the North Carolina Supreme Court blocked the certification of Justice Riggs’ victory.

And now the court’s majority is jeopardizing legally cast ballots from military and overseas voters.

It’s clear that partisan extremists are using every tool at their disposal to try to steal this election. If left unchecked, they will try to replicate this playbook nationwide.

As Justice Riggs continues her court fight to uphold the will of the people, All On the Line will keep fighting to protect our democracy. And we count on grassroots support to help power this work.

Please rush a donation of $15 to push for free and fair elections and a truly representative democracy. → [link removed]
