Two years ago today, extreme violence broke out across Sudan and a hunger
crisis exploded. So far, nearly 12 million people have been forcibly
displaced while two-thirds of the population has fallen into dire need of
humanitarian assistance.

The needs of the Sudanese people continue to increase while the conflict
appears to have no end in sight.

Sudan cannot afford
another year of inaction — the world must act now to ensure that innocent
civilians and children do not perish.

[ [link removed] ]Today, we’re asking you to do your part by making a gift to help
deliver lifesaving and life-sustaining aid like food, water, and shelter
to families in dire need in Sudan and around the globe.

Subject: The world’s worst hunger crisis: Sudan

Dear friend,

Next week will mark two years of intense and unrelenting conflict in
Sudan.

Nearly 12 million people have been forced to flee their homes — half of
them children — while more than 25 million people now face crisis levels
of hunger. Sudan is one of the worst hunger crises of the 21st century.

Two years in and there is no end in sight to the conflict. Meanwhile,
foreign aid cuts are exacerbating the intense humanitarian need. Mercy
Corps CEO Tjada D’Oyen McKenna says, "In the face of this urgent
suffering, the world has looked away. International donors are cutting aid
while needs are spiraling, and local responders are forced to shut down
communal kitchens and life-saving services because they simply have no
resources left."

Mercy Corps is supplying farmers in Sudan with fertilizer and seeds as
they hope for a strong growing season and subsequent harvest.

To support communities in coping with the crisis and ensure they are able
to recover after the violence ends, we are:

Providing emergency cash assistance for nearly 100,000 people so that
they can buy essentials like food, water, medicine, hygiene supplies,
and other items that meet their individual needs.

Supporting over 76,000 smallholder farmers by providing high-quality
seeds to ensure they can plant in time for the upcoming rainy season.

Working in collaboration with Sudan’s Ministry of Health to prevent
malnutrition among young children, including operating nutrition
sites, screening children under five for malnutrition, providing
nutritional supplements, referring severe cases for treatment, and
training caregivers on healthy infant and young child feeding
services.

With support from people like you, Mercy Corps is able to
meet the needs of families facing incredible challenges in war- and
hunger-stricken countries like Sudan and many others.

Thank you for being part of our community.

With gratitude,

The Mercy Corps Team
