We will also commemorate the reversal of an injustice committed by the Oklahoma Senate more than twenty-five years ago when Russell M. Perry was denied a hearing in Oklahoma’s Democrat-controlled Senate because of the color of his skin. Many of you already know that, as Governor, Frank Keating continued his relationship with Russell Perry both as a friend and as Oklahoma’s Secretary of Commerce although never confirmed and never even having been given a hearing by the Democrat-led Senate. Below, Senator Shane Jett, author of the Senate Resolution, describes the reasons it has become incumbent upon our state to correct a wrong. This was addressed last Monday in the 2025 Oklahoma Senate in the form of a resolution. The presentation by Governor Frank Keating, Senator Shane Jett, and Senator Bill Coleman were proclamations of long-overdue justice to Russell Perry and to his family. More than that, it was a move to restore justice to the work of the Oklahoma Senate and integrity to the state. See the presentation here. Below: Governor Keating describes his friendship with Russell Perry and discusses the four years Secretary Perry served Oklahoma as Secretary of Commerce without Senate confirmation. This is something Governor Keating and I have discussed for several years. We both felt that correcting this wrong with a Republican Senate would be easy. However, it required much patience and perseverance on the part of Senator Shane Jett to convince Senate leadership to allow Monday’s honoring of Secretary Perry to move forward. Below: Russell Perry listens to Governor Frank Keating, Senator Shane Jett, and Senator Bill Coleman. Last week saw progress toward correcting an injustice We end this week with Easter and the justice of God Because Easter is the fulfillment of the typological elements of the Passover and the exodus of the People of God from Egypt before it, its impact quickly developed global importance of unprecedented proportions. Easter galvanized the People of God by the fulfilling the promise of the restoration of mankind. God’s people, were soon scattered abroad where they transformed nations, built the West, and produced the American dream. America, the nation Pilgrims founded to expand God’s Kingdom has since inspired nations the world over. This Sunday morning, the world over, Easter is again remembered as the point of transformation of the human race. Politics and the blockades from the 2025 Senate leadership to confirm Russell Perry ex post facto as Secretary of State last week, something denied him twenty-five years ago, served to remind me of the impact of our first parents, Adam and Eve, have had on all mankind. Their rebellion was rooted in their loss of trust in the veracity of God’s spoken word and in their desire to dethrone the Creator. Doubt of God’s veracity left mankind with no reliable epistemological foundation. Without divine guidance, man’s knowledge of law, science, and religion became guess work based on assumptions and speculation. God warned our first parents that in the day they ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they would die. That death materialized and manifested beyond the physical and material realm. It touched every aspect of humanity. It extended, among other areas, to the psychological. Human beings now struggled with self-assurance, self-esteem, and the love of self, love of others, and love of God. The greatest crime in the history of mankind took place in a very public forum. There was unanimous agreement on the part of those who were perceived to represent God’s People. The Government Agreed. Church and state were in lockstep to loose the murderer (Luke 23:19) and crucify Jesus. This was not homicide. It was deicide. What followed was a crime that trumped every crime ever committed in human history. Governor Keating & I think what the Senate did to Secretary Russell Perry twenty-five years ago was a crime. Last year, we began discussing the idea of correcting that wrong. Senator Shane Jett persevered through the walls of resistance from Senate leadership and succeeded in the effort to begin to set the record straight. I thank God for Governor Frank Keating and Senator Shane Jett. Oklahoma needs more statesmen like them. Join us this Tuesday evening at 7 PM in the Oklahoma History Center to recall the events in the Senate last week and to hear Dr. Carol Swain, one of America's national spokespersons for the restoration of sanity to American education.
