House Passes Budget Framework Setting Up Trump's Agenda

The fiscal path we’ve been on is unsustainable. It's both reckless and immoral to grow our nation's debt on the backs of our kids and grandkids. Americans elected President Trump because they knew he would not accept the status quo and would work to deliver the reforms necessary to reshape our government to work for the American people.

The House passed the Senate’s amendment to the House budget resolution (H. Con. Res. 14) by a vote of 216 to 214 last week, setting the stage for Congress to begin delivering on that promise. Among the top priorities: extending the Trump tax cuts and securing a minimum of $1.5 trillion in spending reductions. These aren’t just numbers—they’re a commitment to restoring accountability and ending Washington’s addiction to spending American taxpayer dollars.

We have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to correct course on our government’s addiction to spending and to preserve this Great Nation for our kids and grandkids. We still have a lot of work to do to ensure that the Swamp doesn’t co-opt this process.  I’ll continue working to ensure this reconciliation process makes good on our promise to make meaningful change in how we use your tax dollars.

House Passes the SAVE Act to Secure our Elections

Americans are rightfully concerned about election integrity and the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act is a commonsense solution to protect our democratic process. The SAVE Act has officially passed the House and is one step closer to the President's desk to ensure only U.S. citizens can vote in federal elections.

Introduced by my fellow Texan, Rep. Chip Roy, the SAVE Act requires proof of citizenship before individuals can register for federal elections—preventing fraud and ensuring that every ballot cast is legitimate. This is about upholding the integrity of our elections and restoring public trust. As a cosponsor of this legislation, I was happy to support it and encourage the Senate to take it up quickly.

Historic Border Crossing Encounters Drop, But the Fight Continues

In March, U.S. Border Patrol reported a 95% decrease in illegal border encounters compared to the previous year, with only around 7,181 encounters recorded—down from the nearly 137,473 in March 2024. This dramatic drop highlights the effectiveness of the strong border policies the American people voted for. But we can’t afford to get complacent.

While the Trump Administration is working hard to restore security, I’ve introduced two critical bills to keep that momentum going and ensure our border remains secure regardless of who occupies the White House:

  • The 287(g) Program Protection Act ensures that state and local law enforcement have the authority to partner with ICE, allowing them to detain and deport illegal immigrants swiftly. This collaborative approach strengthens our border security and prevents dangerous illegal activity from slipping through the cracks.
  • The Patrol Act complements this effort by allowing states to defend themselves against illegal immigration with legal authority to construct physical barriers—including walls, fences, and floating barriers— without interference from the federal government.

The progress we’ve seen under President Trump’s leadership shows what’s possible when we take border security seriously. But this isn’t just about one administration. It’s about ensuring lasting protection for American communities through robust, effective policies.

DOGE Hearing on Vacant Federal Buildings

During the DOGE hearing, Federal Foreclosure: Reducing the Federal Real Estate Portfolio, I called for immediate action to address the government's bloated real estate. The federal government owns over 77,000 buildings across the country that are completely vacant or underutilized. Yet American taxpayers continue footing the bill for their maintenance—costing billions each year in waste. That’s not just irresponsible, it’s unacceptable. Washington should be looking for every opportunity to rein in spending and restore accountability to how your tax dollars are used.

We’re holding federal agencies accountable and demanding a real plan to downsize this massive portfolio. Whether it’s through consolidation, sale, or repurposing, we must bring commonsense back to federal property management.

From TX-27 to DC

There’s nothing better than welcoming folks from home to our nation’s capital. Whether it’s pastors praying for our country or families on vacation teaching their children the value of American history, every visit is a honor for my staff and I to meet and speak with you.

Your visits are a reminder of why we are working in DC, and I am always encouraged by the strength of our community back home. Keep coming, keep praying, and keep holding Washington accountable!
