It’s been over a month since Palestinian activist and Columbia University
graduate Mahmoud Khalil was arrested by plainclothes agents, flown across
the country, and jailed in an ICE detention center.

Now, a Louisiana immigration judge claims the Trump administration has the
authority to revoke his green card and deport him, even though he hasn’t
committed a crime.

Columbia University activist Mahmoud Khalil can be deported". Subhead
reads "Lawyers for Khalil are expected to appeal, and a federal judge in
New Jersey has temporarily barred his removal from the country."

This is abhorrent, John.
Mahmoud is facing deportation for his anti-genocide activism while his
wife prepares to give birth to their first child any day now. A New Jersey
judge has temporarily delayed his deportation while his legal team appeals
this decision—which means public pressure still matters.

In the same week, we learned that the U.S. State Department found no
evidence to justify the kidnapping of Tufts University student Rumeysa
Ozturk by ICE. She was simply persecuted because of writing an op-ed
criticizing Netanyahu’s genocide of Palestinians.

As a result, Rumeysa has suffered multiple asthma attacks and has been
forced to experience poor living conditions including insufficient medical
treatment while detained for the last month.

John, no one
should be jailed or deported for their political beliefs. We must speak
out against this dangerous trend of targeting activists and students for
exercising their freedom of speech and standing up for Palestinian lives.
