Hi John — On Thursday, I joined other members of Congress for a CNN town hall to answer the questions so many of our constituents are asking.

As the only woman onstage, my Republican colleagues tried to talk over me, interrupt me, and mansplain my answers — but I was not having any part of that. I pushed back on their baseless lies and stood up for public education, seniors, our veterans, and the immigrant families who call our communities home.

As a mom and former national teacher of the year, I know that the best leaders are empathetic and compassionate. Right now, Donald Trump and Elon Musk are advancing policies that are exceptionally cruel.

I did not hesitate to call out the misinformation and deflection tactics we have come to expect from so many Republicans.
