Our work has always been about building a coalition to make positive change—from our congressional district and all across our country. We are connecting communities, training the next generation of leaders, and electing Democrats to offices in Texas and beyond.
That’s why I am glad to announce that, once again this year, we will be participating in Democracy Summer.
What is Democracy Summer? My friend and colleague Congressman Jamie Raskin founded Democracy Summer to train high school and college students in voter registration, political organizing, and the history of social and political change. The fellowship is a six-week program with hands-on lessons in our TX-07 campaign office as well as virtual meetings with leading historians, law professors, political organizers and union and elected leaders from all across the country each week. This program is an incredible opportunity to gain an intensive education in the historical struggle for democratic freedom and essential lessons for effective political leadership today.
The application portal for Democracy Summer is now open! The priority deadline to apply is next Friday, April 18—apply now and hear back by the end of April!—and the regular deadline is Friday, May 9.
I hope you will encourage students you know who might be interested to apply. (And, members of Congress from all over the country participate in this program. So, if you know students who live somewhere else that might be interested, share this with them, too!)
Thank you again for all you do—for your support, commitment, and partnership.
Together, we can do anything,
