Dear John,

If you’ve been following my newsletter for the past few weeks, you know how fired up I am about the Administration’s relentless attacks on our federal workers agencies, small businesses, seniors, veterans, kids – the list could go on and on. To boot, this is all happening at a time when Minnesotans are facing sky high costs for everything from gas to groceries to prescription drugs.

My Republican colleagues have sat idly by while this is happening, and to make matters worse, they even advanced a partisan budget bill this week that cuts Medicaid and SNAP. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – this bill will make the middle class hungrier and poorer in order to make billionaires richer.

Many of you have (rightfully) been asking what I'm doing to fight back. This week, I introduced my own bill – the Hands Off Medicaid and SNAP Act – to block extreme cuts to Medicaid and SNAP in the final budget bill.

Republicans keep saying they aren’t going to cut Medicaid or SNAP to pay for tax cuts for billionaires even though their budget process has called for billions in cuts from the committees that appropriate that funding. If that’s true, they should prove it and support my bill.

They talk a big game about being the party of the working class, but their actions as of late certainly don’t give them much ground to stand on.

You can read more about my bill here and you can watch my remarks on the House floor opposing their disastrous budget bill here.

An update from my office:

I have an exciting announcement about my upcoming town hall. I’ll be joining forces with DFL State Senators Erin Maye Quade and Lindsey Port and State Representatives Jamie Long, Kaela Berg, Robert Bierman, Jess Hanson, John Huot and Bianca Virnig.

Here are the details and RSVP link. If you’ve already RSVP’d using the original link, no worries. The link hasn’t changed.

Here’s what else I was up to this week:

Taking on corporate greed

This week, I launched the Monopoly Busters Caucus with Representatives Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Pat Ryan (NY-19) and Chris Deluzio (PA-17). Consolidation across the ag, grocery and pharmaceutical industries are jacking up prices and pushing small and local businesses out of the market. I’m fighting to restore competition in the marketplace and put more money back into the pockets of Minnesotans – not billionaires.

Standing with Minnesota’s unions

I started off my week speaking to the Minnesota Building and Construction Trades. Union workers quite literally build up our state and construct the infrastructure every Minnesotan relies on. They’ve got our backs – and we’ve got to have theirs.

I also had the chance to meet with many of the unions individually. I talked to LiUNA Minnesota & North Dakota about the impacts of the Administration’s federal funding cuts on our union workers.

Then, I sat down with IUPAT DC 82 to talk about how we can continue working together to expand apprenticeship programs and help Minnesotans secure good-paying jobs in the trades.

I also had the chance to visit with Teamsters Local 120 and members of SMART Local 10. Big week for Minnesota unions in Washington, DC!

Supporting the beer supply chain

On Monday, I had the pleasure of speaking at the National Beer Wholesalers Association BREW Leadership Forum. It’s always great to meet with women in business who are powering our local economies – especially when there’s beer involved. Not a bad way to start the week!

Then, I met with members of the North American Millers Association who represent the Ardent Mills facility in Hastings. We talked about how we can work together to strengthen the ag supply chain and ensure small businesses like Minnesota’s local breweries have what they need to succeed.

Behind the scenes:

It’s been a while since I switched offices, but I finally got around to swapping out my old front office photos for some more recent ones. I think these are pretty cool!
