Email from Rep Feenstra In this week's roundup: Voting to keep the process moving of delivering on our full Republican agenda. Dear Friend, In this week's roundup: Voting to keep the process moving of delivering on our full Republican agenda. That and more – remember to follow my Facebook page by clicking here and my Twitter page by clicking here to stay up-to-date throughout the week! VOTING TO KEEP THE PROCESS MOVING OF DELIVERING OUR FULL REPUBLICAN AGENDA At the end of this year, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act expires, which would result in a massive tax hike on Americans. That’s why I voted for a budget resolution to unlock the process of extending these tax cuts and delivering tax relief for our families, farmers, workers, and small businesses. This resolution will also allow us to enact President Trump’s entire agenda of border security, energy independence, and fiscal responsibility. We have an obligation to the American people to restore U.S. energy dominance, support our border patrol agents, grow our economy, and deliver on our full Republican agenda. MEETING WITH THE AMBASSADOR OF THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA I had the chance to meet with the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the United States and discuss trade opportunities between our two countries. We can strengthen our alliance and grow our economy by opening new export markets in South Korea for Iowa farmers and producers. OUR RURAL COMMUNITIES NEED A NEW, FIVE-YEAR FARM BILL Last May, my House Agriculture Committee colleagues and I passed the Farm Bill. We strengthened crop insurance, increased reference prices, doubled funding for trade programs, and included protections to keep our farmland away from China. We need a new, five-year Farm Bill for Iowa farmers! VISITING WITH THE FEDERATION OF EXCHANGE ACCOMMODATORS I had a great discussion with the Federation of Exchange Accommodators about protecting 1031 exchanges for the good of our economy and rural communities. 1031 exchanges allow our small businesses to grow and our farmers to pass their farmland onto the next generation. WE NEED SMART STRATEGIES TO BUILD MORE AFFORDABLE HOUSING IN RURAL IOWA In rural Iowa, access to affordable housing is critical for young families looking to plant their roots, local businesses attracting employees, and the long-term growth of our economy. However, with housing costs consistently increasing and construction projects being more difficult to finance in rural areas, we need to enact smart and cost-effective strategies to expand the housing supply and bring down prices. I’m glad to work with my Ways and Means Committee colleague, Rep. Darin LaHood, to introduce the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act to expand and improve incentives in the tax code to build more housing. This commonsense policy will pay dividends for affordable housing in rural Iowa and help our families find housing options that fit their budgets. MEETING WITH ADJUTANT GENERAL OF THE IOWA NATIONAL GUARD STEPHEN OSBORN I enjoyed meeting with Adjutant General of the Iowa National Guard Stephen Osborn. We had a productive conversation about the urgent need to replace the runway and construct an aircraft parking ramp at the 185th Air Refueling Wing — the pride and joy of Sioux City. INVESTING IN AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH Last year, I invited House Agriculture Committee Chairman G.T. Thompson to Iowa to meet with our farmers, producers, and agricultural community. In addition to attending the Farm Progress Show in Boone to see the newest advancements in farm technology, we had the opportunity to learn more about research taking place at Iowa State University through the Genome to Phenome Initiative. In part, this initiative studies plant genetics – particularly corn – to determine how to increase yields and make crops more resilient. Investments in agricultural research are critical to our farm economy and the long-term strength of Iowa agriculture. It’s why I introduced legislation to reauthorize the Genome to Phenome Initiative and ensure that this program receives funding to continue this cutting-edge research. Representing the second largest agricultural-producing congressional district in the nation, increasing yields, lowering input costs, and supporting our farmers are important priorities for agriculture and our rural communities. Feenstra reintroduces bill to reauthorize $40 million Genome to Phenome Initiative Rep. Randy Feenstra introduced the ''Genome to Phenome Initiative Reauthorization Act of 2025'' in his second attempt to pass legislation Wednesday, according to a press release from his office. Feenstra, whose district predominantly lies in northwest Iowa and includes Story County, introduced the legislation with cosponsor Rep. Read More SENDING OFF THE USS IOWA IN CONNECTICUT! WELCOMING THE IOWA BANKERS ASSOCIATION TO CAPITOL HILL I enjoyed meeting with the Iowa Bankers Association to discuss issues important to our community banks. RECAPPING MY VISIT WITH FORT DODGE AND WEBSTER COUNTY Last week, I had the pleasure of welcoming Iowans from Fort Dodge and Webster County to D.C. One topic we covered was education, specifically helping the next generation reach their career goals. It’s why I introduced a bill to make Pell Grants tax-free. Welcoming Fort Dodge and Webster County to Washington Last week, I had the pleasure of welcoming Iowans from Fort Dodge and Webster County to our nation's capital to discuss opportunities and challenges facing our families, farmers, and businesses. Read More SITTING DOWN WITH THE IOWA PORK PRODUCERS ASSOCIATION Representing the top pork-producing congressional district in the nation, it’s always great to sit down with the Iowa Pork Producers Association. We had a great conversation about passing a five-year Farm Bill, investing in foreign animal disease prevention, and overturning California’s Proposition 12 mandates. ENSURING THAT ONLY AMERICAN CITIZENS VOTE IN OUR ELECTIONS Only American citizens should be allowed to vote in American elections. It’s why I voted to ban illegal immigrants from voting in our elections and ensure that liberal states like California clean their voter rolls of noncitizens. Keeping noncitizens and illegal immigrants from unlawfully voting is the least we can do to secure our elections. As a strong advocate for border security and election integrity, I will continue to work with President Trump to ensure that only American citizens vote in American elections. HOLDING THE IRS ACCOUNTABLE TO IOWA TAXPAYERS Last week, the U.S. House unanimously passed two of my bills to keep partisan politics out of the IRS and hold the IRS accountable to Iowa taxpayers. American taxpayers expect and deserve the best customer service and case outcomes when filing their taxes. Feenstra: Holding the IRS accountable to taxpayers Every year, April 15 - and March 1 for our producers - marks a dreaded deadline for American families, farmers and small businesses. It's the day that the federal government Read More CHATTING WITH THE IOWA MOTOR TRUCK ASSOCIATION It was great to meet with representatives from the Iowa Motor Truck Association and cover several important policy priorities. From extending the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act to reducing burdensome regulations, we need to support our truckers who keep our supply chains moving and our shelves stocked. TALKING CROP INSURANCE WITH THE CROP INSURANCE AND REINSURANCE BUREAU! I had a great discussion with the Crop Insurance and Reinsurance Bureau about the importance of strong crop insurance protections for Iowa agriculture in a five-year Farm Bill. We also talked about my bill to lower the cost of crop insurance for the next generation of Iowa farmers and producers. SPEAKING WITH U.S. TRADE REPRESENTATIVE JAMIESON GREER DURING A HOUSE WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE HEARING On Wednesday, the House Ways and Means Committee held a hearing with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer about striking trade deals that benefit our country. I specifically emphasized the need to open new export markets for Iowa agriculture, and the importance of looking all over the world — from the U.K. to India to Kenya — for new trade opportunities for our farmers and producers. VISITING WITH POLARIS Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to sit down with representatives from Polaris. I’ve been to their location in Spirit Lake on my 36 County Tour. We talked about the importance of trade deals that support economic growth and benefit our businesses and rural communities. ONE LAST THING: CONGRATULATING LAURA CHEN ON WINNING THE 2024 CONGRESSIONAL APP CHALLENGE! In between votes, I met with Laura Chen from Ames who won our 4th District Congressional App Challenge last year. Students like Laura are the future of our great nation, and I’m glad that she could make the trip to D.C. to be recognized for this amazing achievement. Congrats, Laura!
