And the Trashion Fashion

Contest winners are…

The Trashion Fashion Show was a big hit! During the Cowtown Cleanup's Earth Party, on Saturday, March 29, 16 participants made their way down the runway. The judges panel, consisting of Keep Fort Worth Beautiful board members and staff, deliberated over each of the showcased designs made from trash and reused materials, until finally coming to their tough decision.

*2025 Trashion Fashion Contest winning designs:*

* *1st Place: "Live, Laugh, Laundry" *created by Rayanna Hosokawa
This stunning design made from used dryer sheets wowed the judges with its creativity and environmental impact, securing the first-place spot!
* *2nd Place: "Midsommar Night’s Dream" *created by Natalie Jaecks
With a unique blend of recycled materials like discarded classroom printouts, sheet music, and vhs tape, this piece captured the judges’ attention with its innovation and bold style.
* *3rd Place: "Quince Upcycle"* created by Audie Pope and Alma Santillan
With a 10-yr-old Quinceañera hoop skirt, cardboard boxes, shoelaces and can tabs for the bodice, this design impressed the judges for its eco-friendly message and artistic flair.
* *4th Place: "CD Nostalgia" *created by Sohannah Mejia, Maria Mejia, and Genesis Mejia
With CDs and plastic trash bags, this design reflected its beauty and creativity for a unique design.

Keep Fort Worth Beautiful would like to thank all of the Trashion Fashion Contest participants for their time, creativity, and commitment to preserving our environment.

Lights Out
Lights Out, Fort Worth

Fort Worth, it’s bird migration season! Millions of birds will pass through our city while traveling to their Spring homes, and turning off all non-essential lights between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. helps keep their journey safe, especially during the peak migration period.

* Bird Migratory Season is March 1 – June 15.
* Peak Migration period is April 22 – May 12.

Efforts to protect migrating birds from bright lights began in 2017, initiated by the Houston Audubon and American National Insurance Company after a tragic incident in Galveston where there was a 400-bird collision. Inspired by these efforts, Lights Out, Fort Worth and Lights Out, Dallas were launched in 2020, led primarily by the Texas Conservation Alliance, following the creation of a bird migration map that highlighted the birds' migratory paths.

Join the City in helping these birds fly safely through by participating in the Lights Out, Fort Worth initiative!

Report Air Quality Issues

Ever wonder what happens after you report that strange smell outside, significant dust, or that thick smoke you saw in your neighborhood? The Environmental Services Department takes quick action to address your air quality concerns.

*You can report air quality issues through multiple channels:*

* Use the MyFW app.
* Call the Customer Care Center at (817) 392-1234.
* Email at [email protected].

Once the report comes in, Environmental Specialists visit the site to investigate, observe conditions, and determine if there are any violations. If violations are found, the City will issue Notices of Violation, and may refer the case to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for enforcement. TCEQ will then evaluate the suspected violations and may impose fines and penalties.

The Environmental Services Department's work represents Fort Worth's commitment to protecting one of the most valuable things we all share: the air we breathe every day.

Visit the Air Quality webpage [ [link removed] ] to learn more about the City’s local air quality initiatives.

yard
Spring Cleaning?
Don't Forget Proper
Yard Waste Disposal

It’s spring cleaning season—don’t forget to take care of all that accumulated yard waste! Beautifying your yard does not translate to trash. Yard waste - like leaves, grass clippings, branches, and other organic materials - can become natural resources like mulch and compost.

Properly disposing of yard waste helps preserve space in the landfill, reduces harmful greenhouse gas emissions, prevents the disruption of native plant life, and preserves stormwater quality.

*Proper ways to discard yard waste:*

* Use Kraft paper yard bags for leaves, brush, grass clippings, shrubs, and twigs.
* Use a green yard cart for a convenient, weekly, curbside collection. A 96-gallon green yard cart will be provided for a one-time fee of $75.
* Take yard waste to one of the City’s four (4) Drop-Off Stations.

*Curbside Yard Waste Collection reminders:*

* Set out green yard carts and closed yard waste bags on your curbside for pickup by 7:00 a.m. on your scheduled collection day.
* The City cannot accept yard waste mixed with rocks, debris, plastic bags, plastic bottles, metal, plant pot pieces, or trash.

Learn more about the City’s yard waste disposal options by visiting the yard waste webpage. [ [link removed] ]

Grass clippings update
Help Maintain Stormwater Quality

It’s finally spring, which means warmer temperatures, refreshing rainfalls, and greener lawns! Remember, while spring is the perfect time to get outside and tend to your yard, it is also important to practice responsible lawn maintenance to protect our water.

Grass clippings, leaves, and other yard debris left on streets not only look bad - they are bad for the environment and could lead to fines for you or your lawncare provider. These materials can clog the City's stormwater drain system, block stormwater flow, and potentially cause flooding in streets, sidewalks, properties, and even homes.

*Tips for proper grass clipping and leaf maintenance:*

* Sweep and collect grass clipping and leaves. Place them in your green yard cart or paper yard bags. Yard carts and yard bags can be set out on the curbside for weekly collection.
* Blow grass clippings back onto the lawn. It can act as a mulch and natural fertilizer. Keeping grass clippings on your yard can also help retain moisture in the lawn, reducing the need for frequent watering.
* Rake or blow grass clippings and leaves into a compost pile for use in gardens and flower beds.

These tips can you can help keep your lawn, and City stormwater systems, clean and better maintained.

*See a stormwater violation? *

If you see grass clippings, leaves, litter, or other debris being put onto streets or storm drains, report it direct from your mobile device using the MyFW App, or call the City Call Center at 817-392-1234.

Visit the City Stormwater Quality webpage [ [link removed] ] for more information about grass clippings and stormwater quality.
