When Was the Last Time You Needed a Second Chance?
Failing and trying again after facing our consequences is part of being human. But when someone has a criminal record, it often seems like the doors to opportunity lock forever.
For people with a criminal record, there are nearly 44,000 legal barriers to a second chance.
Some of these barriers are silly and arbitrary. In Colorado, someone who has been convicted of any felony can’t call a bingo game. But others set up real roadblocks to success. For example, many states prevent a student with a criminal record from receiving financial aid for college.
Because of these barriers, individuals with a criminal record—whether or not they were incarcerated—often struggle to live out their God-given potential.
