Team, we're heartbroken.

On April 8, the Senate Judiciary Committee rejected our sponsored bill, the Affordable Insurance and Climate Recovery Act (SB 222). Corporate polluters' lobbying money and propaganda prevailed over the truth.

Californians are struggling. Our communities are being decimated by more frequent and destructive climate disasters. Family budgets are stretched from skyrocketing insurance costs. Insurers are fleeing the state.

Yet Senators Tom Umberg, Angelique Ashby, Aisha Wahab, Maria Elena Durazo, Jesse Arreguín, Anna Caballero, Roger Niello, and Suzette Martinez Valladares fell for Big Oil's bait and switch—and made the shortsighted and dangerous decision to not hold these companies accountable for causing our insurance affordability crisis.

This vote shows how vital it is to hold our leaders accountable for protecting Californians. Will you email your senator and ask them to make bold climate action a priority for this legislative session?

Let me be clear, friend: The insurance crisis is the tipping point for an economic crisis. It's just a matter of time before climate disasters drive the remaining insurers out of our state. And with affordable insurance options gone, businesses will be forced to close. Families won't be able to get mortgages. Construction to develop our state will stop.

This is the fate that lawmakers chose by refusing to hold Big Oil accountable and failing to pass SB 222.

This issue isn't going away—but neither will our fight for a more affordable California. We will continue to push hard to create solutions for the affordability crisis, and we want you on our team. Join our fight by emailing your legislator about this vote.

Thanks for being part of this movement,
