John,
On February 10th, a federal judge in Rhode Island said the Trump administration failed to comply with the “plain text” of his ruling.
On March 13th, a federal judge ordered federal agencies to offer reinstatement to fired federal employees—which the White House press secretary called “absurd” and “unconstitutional.”
In March of last year, JD Vance said he thought the president should defy the Supreme Court if they tried to stop him from firing federal employees.
It looks like the administration is laying the groundwork to flout court orders—but the mere question of whether it will is testing our constitutional order. If the administration follows through on these threats, then the judicial branch and the public must hold them accountable.
Court orders are not optional. It’s that simple.
