Alcohol Harm across the Drinking Spectrum - new report out now
[link removed]

This research examined the drinking habits of more than 4,000 UK adults and the wide range of health harms associated with different levels of alcohol consumption.

Results from this research offer a wake-up call, showing that the negative impact of alcohol on the health and wellbeing of the UK population is widespread. Even among those of us drinking less than 14 units of alcohol a week, which the Chief Medical Officers have defined as “low risk”, there are links with reduced daily functioning, lower sleep quality, poorer dental health, and higher prevalence of cancer and cardiovascular disease.

** Feeding Recovery Handbook: Making and sharing food for harm reduction
------------------------------------------------------------
[link removed]

We're pleased to announce the publication of the Feeding Recovery Handbook: a guide for local services to undertaking successful cooking and eating activities.

Feeding Recovery is an Alcohol Change UK project, funded by the Welsh Government, and delivered in partnership with Barod and the Nelson Trust, that is about more than alcohol. It is about poor nutrition and social isolation that often go hand-in-hand with alcohol problems; and about how connecting with others around food can promote wellbeing and reduce harm. It offers a model for services supporting people facing a range of challenges and obstacles in their lives, not just alcohol issues.

** The return of alcohol sales at football stadiums “up for discussion”
------------------------------------------------------------
[link removed]

The Scottish government and police have not ruled out undertaking some pilot projects to allow the sale of alcohol at football games in Scotland, which has been banned at Scottish grounds since 1981.

A briefing for First Minister John Swinney stated, "a limited number of pilot projects" to gather evidence on the effect of selling alcohol to fans would be possible and that "Police Scotland are open to discussions on this", although the Scottish government has "no plans" to review legislation yet.

** Share your views on alcohol and cancer
------------------------------------------------------------

Alcohol consumption causes seven different types of cancer. This follows alcohol being classified as a Group 1 carcinogen by the World Health Organisation’s International Agency for Research on Cancer in 1988, placing it in the highest risk group alongside tobacco.

The Prime Minister’s health mission sets the objective of building an NHS fit for the future, and an essential part of this is achieving their goal to reduce the number of lives lost to cancer. The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) is seeking the views of individuals, professionals and organisations to understand how they can do more to achieve this ambition.

By sharing your views, you will inform their plan to improve cancer care, from referral and diagnosis to treatment and aftercare, to better the experience and outcomes for people with cancer. This includes your views on alcohol as a key risk factor for cancer.

This call for evidence closes at 11:59pm on 29 April 2025.
