Funding Freeze. The Trump administration has
[link removed]
frozen over $1.8 billion in federal funding to Cornell and Northwestern as part of its broader investigation into alleged civil rights violations and campus antisemitism. The move follows warnings from the Department of Education that universities must protect Jewish students' access to campus life or face consequences. Cornell said it received over 75 stop-work orders from the Department of Defense tied to national security research. “We are actively seeking information from federal officials to learn more about the basis for these decisions,” said Cornell President Michael Kotlikoff. Northwestern said it had not yet been formally notified. The funding freezes follow similar
actions against Columbia and Harvard.

Princeton. Princeton University is

investigating a series of disruptions during a visit by former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett. Anti-Israel protesters interrupted his discussion and set off a fire alarm. Countering the chaos, Bennett joined members of his audience in a pro-Israel singalong. Bennett, who is on a U.S. college tour, was invited by Princeton's Center for Jewish Life and other university groups. Princeton President Christopher Eisgruber condemned the antisemitic language used by demonstrators and expressed regret over the event's disruptions, promising disciplinary action. The university is one of many under scrutiny from the Trump administration over its handling of campus antisemitism.

Georgetown. The Georgetown University Student Association is pushing out an

anti-Israel referendum and has bypassed its own procedures in order to do so. The
[link removed]
BDS resolution, which would indicate student support for divesting from companies and academic institutions with Israel connections, would have no binding effect on the university administration. The timing itself is problematic, since the student government plans to hold the vote next week. As
[link removed]
ADL asserted: "holding the vote during Passover, when many Jewish students cannot fully participate and voice their concerns, is highly problematic, exclusionary, and unacceptable."
[link removed]
Student Senator John DiPierri, who voted against the referendum’s introduction, added: “Every single rule related to our procedure was broken…. We should not be weighing in on political issues. I don’t know why our student government wants to pick a fight, but it’s not a fight that I want to be a part of.”

Brandeis. The Hillel at Brandeis University held

celebratory Shabbat services and other experiences across campuses last weekend that drew hundreds of participants, including current and admitted students and families. Hillel’s Rabbi Seth Winberg noted that while a group of anti-Israel protesters surfaced during the celebration, the Shabbat participants “brought light, and joy and hope.” Aspects of the protest were condemned by the school’s Interim President Arthur Levine, who criticized masked protesters who were not part of the Brandeis community, and warned that “students who invited the trespassers to protest on campus will face disciplinary proceedings.” Some of the protesters

Rider. Rider University is
[link removed]
investigating two recent antisemitic incidents including the carving of swastikas into a Jewish student’s dorm door, and the placing of an ‘RSVP’ message to a campus Passover Seder event using the name “Hitler.” In response, university President Gregory Dell’Omo condemned the acts as “shocking, painful and absolutely unacceptable,” and said that additional security measures have been put in place. Hillel president Ethan Handelman emphasized the importance of solidarity and Jewish visibility. These incidents follow a January episode in which a faculty member was disciplined for making a gesture resembling a Nazi salute.

Northeastern. A planned speech at Northeastern University by an anti-Israel academic

has been cancelled. That step came after the university asked for a list of registrants for the event, which was being sponsored by the Jewish Law Students Advocating for Justice group at Northeastern; the group describes itself as law students who “are in full support of Palestinian liberation.” The university asserts that the law student group had not gone through proper protocols, and that it is “standard practice to ask for a list of attendees at these and other related events.”

Hiding Husky Pride and a Star of David. Marni Merritt, a senior at the University of Washington,
[link removed]
shares her experience as a Jewish student on campus since the 10/7 attacks, describing a shift from school pride to isolation and fear. She recounts feeling unsafe and unsupported by both peers and the administration in the wake of rising antisemitism. Merritt highlights incidents of discrimination, including a professor’s controversial comparison of Hamas to American slave revolts. Despite some recent improvements, Merritt and other Jewish students feel that change has been slow in coming, and she calls for more support.

Survived to Tell. A group of
[link removed]
Israelis from Druze, Christian and Jewish communities visited the University of Melbourne, where they shared their personal stories at a special event hosted by professors from the Australian Academic Alliance Against Antisemitism. The visit was part of a larger effort to foster deeper understanding about Israel post-10/7. The event included a virtual reality experience titled Survived to Tell, which included firsthand accounts from hostages and survivors. Due to concerns about potential disruptions from anti-Israel activists, the event was held discreetly, further shedding light on the rise of antisemitism on Australian university campuses.

May His Memory Be a Blessing. The Academy of the Hebrew Language has officially

renamed a species of orange butterfly in honor of Ariel Bibas, an Israeli child murdered after being taken hostage by Hamas during the 10/7 terror attack. Formerly known in Hebrew as Kitmit Yerushalayim (Orange Jerusalem), the butterfly Melitaea ornata will now be called Kitmit Ariel (Orange Ariel). The name change was unanimously approved after receiving permission from Ariel’s father, Yarden Bibas. The Bibas family became a national symbol of the tragedy, with the color orange representing the campaign to free them, inspired by the vivid orange hair of Ariel and his younger brother Kfir.

Wall To Wall. In preparation for Passover, the Western Wall Heritage Foundation

cleared tens of thousands of prayer notes from the ancient stones of Jerusalem’s Western Wall. The ritual, conducted twice a year, ensures the respectful burial of messages containing the name of God. This year’s removal was especially poignant, with notes submitted by IDF soldiers, bereaved families and those impacted by the 10/7 attacks. Remarkably, many messages came from people in countries that are

at war with Israel — including Iran, Yemen, and Lebanon — via the Foundation’s website.
