Friend,

This weekend, our team spread out through Missouri’s 8th District to support local organizers in their protests, rallies, and actions. We’ve seen the images of demonstrations in large cities like St. Louis, LA, and NYC, but I’m here to tell you that our rural areas are in this fight, too:

Over 200 people in Festus.
Over 70 people in Steelville.
Over 150 people in Cape.
Protests in Perryville, Poplar Bluff, Farmington, Sikeston, Dexter, Rolla, Cuba, and more.

Too often, our elected officials shy away from protests. Jason Smith still hasn’t released a statement about the death of George Floyd, despite pleas by his constituents in every corner of MO-08. This isn’t leadership. It’s cowardice, at best.

To Kathy, leadership is showing up continually; listening to the concerns of constituents, even when these conversations can be difficult; and working with local leaders to bring about action, and change. This is why we’ve hosted over 25 public town halls across the District, and it’s why our team is committed to showing up at protests and rallies all throughout MO-08.

It’s time for real leadership for our neighbors. For too long, Smith has idly accepted injustice and refused to acknowledge the damage he’s done to our community.

Enough is enough. If you also want to see change, I’d ask you to consider making a contribution to our campaign. We’re hard at work, and we need you in this fight with us, too.
