Dear Friend,

Next Tuesday (April 15th) is Tax Day and it also happens to be when
members of Congress will be back in their states and districts for April
recess.

This is the perfect opportunity to make our voices heard and let them know
that we expect them to pass policies that prioritize families over
billionaires….which is exactly the opposite of what Trump and
congressional Republicans are proposing at this moment.

paper for a high-impact action this Tax Day! (Don’t worry–we make it
incredibly easy with our Letter to the Editor tool. We’ll even help you
submit it to your local paper).

Here’s what’s going on: Members of Congress are heading home next week for
a two week recess. We are expecting a vote in the House today to move the
Republican Budget Resolution forward to the next step. This package gives
$4.5 trillion in tax cuts to billionaires and mega-corporations by cutting
our health care, education, nutrition assistance, and child care. [1]
Yes….you heard that right! Republicans in Congress are moving forward a
massive package that gives more tax cuts to the super wealthy (think Elon
Musk and Mark Zuckerberg) while doing nothing to lower costs for families,
help us make ends meet, or protect our vital health care and public
education.

The Republican plan hurts our families and our economy: 70% of the
benefits from the Republican tax plan go to the richest households and tax
cuts for the rich never “trickle down” into broader economic gains. [ [link removed] ]
Trump and Republicans in Congress will use any excuse to give their
billionaire friends and donors more tax cuts—but the reality is tax cuts
for the rich will do nothing to dig us out of the hole that Trump’s
disastrous economic and tariff policies have created.

This is not only bad policy. It’s also wildly unpopular. An overwhelming
majority of Americans oppose cuts to critical programs including,
Medicaid, Social Security, Medicare, food assistance, and K-12 education.
[ [link removed] ] That opposition extends across party lines, with over 60% of Trump
voters opposing cuts to all those programs.

It’s not too late to stop this disastrous plan! We can reverse this
decline by making sure families have the tools and opportunities they need
to get ahead and grow the economy, not taking money from them to give the
rich tax cuts. This means advancing policies related to the care
economy—health care, including Medicaid and Medicare, child care and Head
Start, care for the aging and people with disabilities, paid family and
medical leave, an expanded Child Tax Credit, and strong public schools.

We don’t have to accept the backwards, anti-family, negligent proposals
being pushed by Trump. And members of Congress don’t need to vote for them
either.

[2]**Use this Tax Day to send a letter to the editor to your local paper
speaking out against the Republican tax plan and tell our elected leaders
to choose families over billionaires!

Don’t worry—sending the Letter to the Editor is super easy! When you click
on the link above, we’ll lead you through a quick process to write a
Letter to the Editor to your local newspaper. This tool is pretty
magical—you can easily edit our pre-drafted letter, if you wish (inserting
your personal story with any of the programs Republicans are proposing to
cut), and send it to your paper with just a few clicks.

The pre-drafted letter (which you can edit when you click through to the
link!) simply says:

“Right now Republican leaders in Congress are debating a package that
would provide $4.5 trillion in tax cuts to large corporations and
billionaires like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg – and they plan to pay for
it by cutting essential tools families and businesses need to thrive like:
health care, public education, nutrition assistance, and child care. This
is not okay. 70% of the Republicans' tax plan benefits go to the richest
5%, while costs will go up for hardworking families, who will feel the
impact of budget cuts and tariff hikes the most. This will only raise
costs overall, increase grocery bills, and hurt our economy.

Our leaders should make sure the wealthy and corporations pay their fair
share in taxes in order to ensure everyone can go to work, raise kids, and
contribute to our communities. This means advancing a permanent Child Tax
Credit, as well as child care, health care, nutrition assistance, care for
the aging and people with disabilities, and paid family and medical leave.
Our tax contributions aren't just expenses—they're investments in the
systems that allow all of us to thrive.” (186 words)

Why do letters to the editor matter so much right now? Simply put—U.S.
Senators and Representatives and their staff monitor what is being said in
their local papers! By submitting a letter you are helping us raise the
profile on this very important issue and ringing the alarm bells that we
expect Congress to protect our health care, nutrition, public schools, and
child care funding.

[3]Join us in this easy, high-impact action and send a letter to the
editor to your local paper today so it can be published in time for Tax
Day.

Thank you for speaking up for our families and economy.
