The SAVE Act would force every voter to prove their identity with a passport or birth certificate every time they register or update their registration. That doesn’t just effectively end online and mail-in voter registration — if passed, it’d have devastating effects on who gets access to the ballot box.

Studies show that millions of Americans can’t meet the SAVE Act’s paperwork requirements to register to vote, disproportionately affecting military voters, rural voters, tribal citizens, survivors of natural disasters, people of color, and working-class Americans.

Let’s be clear about what this is about: making it more difficult for certain citizens to vote, all while claiming to address very-false claims of widespread voter fraud.
