John — Soon, the House will vote on the SAVE Act, which has the potential to upend elections and disenfranchise millions of voters nationwide.
I will be voting NO on this legislation, John. Let me take a minute to explain why.
The MAGA movement has continually attacked the right to vote and our election systems since day one, all to sow distrust in free and fair elections.
If signed into law, the SAVE Act would require voters to register in person and provide proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections, meaning that most voters would likely have to provide a passport or birth certificate just to be able to vote. This will make it harder for veterans, disabled voters, and married women who have changed their last names to register to vote. The SAVE Act amounts to a poll tax because those who can’t afford a passport will face additional barriers to voting.
These loopholes present more unnecessary obstacles, which Republicans know only benefits the GOP. MAGA extremists win when voters cannot cast their ballot or stay home because the process has become overwhelming.
This is a veiled attempt at voter suppression. This will impact marginalized communities, including women, people of color, disabled voters, and elderly voters, and create more problems than it solves. Pitch in right now to stand with me in this fight against voter suppression.
