Trump’s tariffs…
What are they? (Taxes on the American people.) When are they? (Unknown.) Where are they? (On an island only inhabited by penguins.) Paused? (It seems so.) Un-paused? (Could be.) National emergency at the Canada border? (Sham.)
I don’t think Trump himself even knows the answers to these questions!
But here’s one thing we know for sure: Uncertainty is horrible for the U.S. economy.
A “pause” for 90 days on all announced tariffs except China. But wait — 10% on every other country during the pause? And maybe different on Canada and Mexico? And on cars from most countries?
So, companies will “pause” investment decisions until they know what the hell is going on.
This isn’t leadership, and it’s not even showmanship. It’s a sinking ship, and we’re all on it.
I’m going to use every single legislative tool at my disposal to fight back against these wildly ill-conceived and ill-advised trade wars Trump is determined to get us into. We’ve already had one victory with the Senate passage of my resolution to un-do Trump’s Canada tariffs, and we’re working hard on more action.
This fight is going to take all of us. Members of Congress standing up and showing backbone, no matter what their party registration is. People all across the country vocally and vehemently sharing their concerns with those in power. And a strong grassroots movement to support leaders who will do right by the American people.
