In our third edition of “The So What,” DQC’s Jenn Bell-Ellwanger and Paige Kowalski are examining recent announcements, executive orders, and investigations from the Trump administration and how they may impact privacy.
Jenn and Paige discuss the following actions:
- Secretary McMahon’s directive to the Department of Education (ED) to clear a backlog of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act complaints;
- ED and Department of Justice announcing a team that includes federal privacy staff to jointly investigate Title IX policies;
- An EO on data sharing that may have direct privacy implications; and
- The administration’s commentary on AI.
These actions are raising questions about how the administration views the role and scope of the federal privacy infrastructure. We’re watching to keep track and make sense of what it means for the data landscape.
