As one of the nation’s leading Social Security advocacy organizations, the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare cannot stand by while the Trump Administration runs roughshod over the agency that administers Americans’ earned benefits.

Under the influence of President Trump, billionaire Elon Musk and the so-called “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE), the leadership of the Social Security Administration (SSA) has been recklessly slashing critical services, closing field offices and laying off staff with years of experience and expertise.

That’s why we are proud to join a federal lawsuit to compel the Trump Administration to stop interfering in Americans’ ability to claim the benefits they paid into and earned after a lifetime of hard work.

The lawsuit alleges that mass staffing reductions, policies requiring individuals to seek services in person at field offices, and the elimination of critical offices within the SSA unlawfully harm older adults and people with disabilities who rely on Social Security.

Acting SSA Commissioner Leland Dudek, Musk and DOGE are creating nothing but distress and confusion for more than 73 million Social Security beneficiaries who depend on their benefits to get by, while risking irreparable damage to the Social Security system.

Right now, Social Security beneficiaries across the country are facing delays and increased barriers to accessing their earned benefits — and it could get a whole lot worse unless we stop them.

We need the courts to step in and restore sanity and stability to SSA immediately!
