Friend, time is running out. We need you to sign NILC’s public comment opposing the Trump administration’s dangerous rule that attempts to force millions of immigrants to register with the government — or face criminal charges, detention, and deportation. ([link removed])
History has shown us the dangers of forced registries. The Trump administration’s rule is ripped right out of the authoritarian playbook, and in the past, this road has led to internment and concentration camps.
We just filed a lawsuit against this policy last week, but public support is crucial to making our voices heard. We cannot allow this administration’s attempt to criminalize, entrap, and sow fear and chaos in our communities to succeed.
You can read more about the danger of forced registries in the U.S. in the email below, but right now we’re asking you: Please sign on to NILC’s public comment today. The April 11 deadline is rapidly approaching, and we need your name alongside thousands of others standing against this injustice, friend. ([link removed])

Make no mistake: this registration scheme threatens not just the freedom of immigrants, but the freedom of all of us. We will not let history repeat itself.
Thank you for making your voice heard,

Friend, the Trump administration is moving forward with its insidious plan to force undocumented immigrants to either register with the U.S. government — or face criminal charges, and detention and deportation. It is clear how the Trump administration plans to use this information: They want to find, arrest, and deport as many immigrants as possible, or frighten them into choosing to leave their lives behind. This rule blanket targets and attempts to criminalize millions of hardworking, longstanding members of our communities.
Here’s where things stand: The administration has published the new rule, effective April 11, and there is now an open public comment period.
Friend, we need as many people to speak out before April 11 as possible. Sign on to NILC’s public comment today >>> ([link removed])

We have seen forced registries in the U.S. before. They have preceded some of the most shameful episodes in U.S. history, including the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II and the targeting of immigrants from Muslim majority countries in the wake of 9/11. We cannot allow history to repeat itself.
Important note for undocumented community members: Coming forward to register will be extremely dangerous for most undocumented immigrants. It could lead to detention, deportation, and possibly criminal prosecution. Community members with questions about registration and how it might impact them should consult trusted immigration lawyers, inform themselves about their rights, and monitor trusted sources of information. Read our Know Your Rights resource for more information. ([link removed])
Friend, thank you for speaking out. Our collective action can send a powerful message: we will not allow the government to criminalize our families and neighbors, and we will not let fear, hatred, or discrimination dictate our futures.
Together,
Heidi Altman
