Over the past few years, there has been a sharp increase in hunger and
food insecurity worldwide. Natural disasters, rising food costs, and
conflict have made food inaccessible and unaffordable for millions of
people.

With your support, Mercy Corps is working side-by-side with communities to
address the root causes of hunger and find sustainable solutions.

One solution is by supporting farmers in growing more resilient crops.
When farmers are able to yield more crops, they’re able to make a living
and provide food for their communities. For example:

  In Colombia, we are helping farmers acquire the knowledge and tools
required to grow nutritious crops. Jaime* (name changed for safety) a
  farm owner in Colombia completely transformed his coca farm into a
coffee farm. He also grows vegetables such as yucca, plantains, and
maize.
 
  In Kenya, our teams are helping young women learn about
climate-resilient farming to grow kale, spinach, and other hardy
  vegetables. With Mercy Corps’ training, Selina and 27 other women are
able to take food home to feed their families and sell the rest for a
profit. Selina has learned to prepare nutritious meals for her
children, who have gotten healthier and stronger.
 
  In Ukraine, we’re helping farmers start over after losing their
businesses to the ongoing war. Oleksandr* and his wife Yaroslava*(name
  changed for safety), for example, were able to restart their
beekeeping business in a different town after Mercy Corps helped them
acquire new materials for their beehives.


Mercy Corps remains committed to supporting families facing hunger
worldwide and strengthening local food systems so communities have the
food they need to thrive.
