John,
This World Health Day's theme, “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures,” keeps bringing me back to one thing: Black women in America are nearly three times more likely to die in childbirth than white women.
Access to quality healthcare has never been equitable. For Black people, the barriers are steep, and the consequences are devastating. This is why we must talk about healthcare in the context of racial justice. We cannot have one without the other.
I'm fighting to secure equal access to prenatal and postpartum care for all Americans, including Black mothers. This World Health Day, join me in this fight for the health and safety of our communities by adding your name next to mine >> [link removed]
In 2023, I cosponsored a bill to push the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to prioritize these disparities, but we are facing serious setbacks.
Donald Trump’s appointment of RFK Jr. to HHS is already undermining vital programs like the Maternal and Child Health Bureau and the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System. These are the very programs that help track maternal and child health and fight the injustice we’ve been working to dismantle. And they’re being wiped out.
I'm not staying quiet about this. Every woman and child, regardless of their race or background, deserves a healthy beginning and a hopeful future. I will not sit back while the programs that could help these women and children live are destroyed by Trump and the RFK Jr. led HHS.
I need you with me in the fight for healthcare justice. Add your name to ensure the next generation of mothers won’t face these same inequities >> [link removed]
