Dear Friend,

Over the last week, Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist and I have been on the ground across Northern Michigan making sure families and communities impacted by the extreme ice storms get the help they need.

State and local emergency teams have been working to clear roads, deliver food and water, and help our utility providers get the power back on. I also deployed hundreds of members of the Michigan National Guard to join them to help keep people safe. We lifted trucking restrictions to expedite fuel and critical supply shipments too, and worked with our utility partners to position hundreds of utility workers to help get power back online as fast as possible.

To make sure families have all the information they need in one place, we launched Michigan.gov/IceStorm [ [link removed] ]. Check it out for information on the number of shelters available near you, where to find fuel and oxygen stations, and updates on current power outages.

We’re also offering tax extensions for folks in northern Michigan as they continue to recover. Families in the 12 counties hit by these storms now have extra time to file and pay state taxes without racking up any penalties or interest. Contact the Michigan Treasury by telephone, mail, or e-service to request an extension. [ [link removed] ]

Thanks to the first responders, emergency crews, and utility workers who are working hard to help get Michiganders back on their feet.

Michiganders are tough, and we will get through this together.

Sincerely,
