*Governor Whitmer Continues to Fix the Damn Roads with Project Starting This Week in Eaton and Ingham Counties* 

 

*LANSING, Mich. **—*  Today,* *Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced that the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will begin road repairs this week in Eaton and Ingham counties. The highway crosses the county line. Based on economic modeling, this $15 million investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 143 jobs. 

 

“Across Michigan, we are moving dirt and fixing the damn roads to grow our economy, helping Michiganders go to work, drop their kids off at school, and run errands safely,” said *Governor Whitmer*. “By the end of this construction season, we will have fixed, repaired, or replaced nearly 24,500 lane miles of roads and 1,900 bridges, supporting thousands of good-paying, local jobs without raising taxes by a dime. This year, let’s build on our momentum to pass a bipartisan local road funding plan, so we can keep fixing our damn roads and creating good-paying, local jobs.”  

 

“Road construction may not be the most enjoyable experience, but it plays a vital role in maintaining safe, well-conditioned roads and preventing drainage issues in surrounding areas,” said *state Senator Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing)*. “This project goes beyond road maintenance — it also improves pedestrian safety throughout the corridor. Our roads serve everyone, from drivers to pedestrians, and I’m glad to see this investment making our community safer and more accessible for all.” 

 

This project affirms our commitment to fixing and maintaining Michigan’s roads,” said *state Representative Kara Hope (D-Holt)*. “Drivers and pedestrians in Delhi Township and the City of Lansing will benefit from this $15 million investment to make M-99 a safer route, and I look forward to seeing its successful completion. Building up our infrastructure starts with building up our roads.” 

  

“Communities in East Eaton County rely on M-99 for their morning commutes, getting kids to school and picking up groceries — we must ensure this route is safe and well-maintained,” said *state Representative Angela Witwer (Delta Township)*. “This $15 million investment is a step in the right direction to making roads safer and more reliable. I will continue to prioritize projects that invest in Eaton County infrastructure and driver and pedestrian safety.” 

 

*M-99 Rebuilding Project in Eaton, Ingham Counties  * 

MDOT will begin rebuilding M-99 between Holt Highway and Edgewood Boulevard in Eaton and Ingham counties. This work is part of a $15 million investment to rebuild M-99 from Holt Road to Edgewood Boulevard that will address pavement conditions, drainage and pedestrian improvements.

Two-way traffic will be maintained on M-99 via traffic shifts and lane closures. During construction, periodic intersection closures will occur along M-99, motorists are encouraged to follow the posted detour. 



*Safety benefit:*   



This project will provide a better and safer route for all drivers. Closing lanes during this type of work is necessary to provide the safest work area possible for crews and motorists.
