News from Representative Robert Aderholt

Dear Mr. xxxxxx:

As you fix your morning cup of coffee this first Saturday of the month, I want to thank you for taking a few minutes to catch up with me. As you know, each month, I share important updates from Washington and around Alabama’s Fourth District—legislation I’m working on, key meetings, and stories that matter to our community. March was a very busy month.

Vote to Fund the Government & Promote Fiscal Stability

I voted in favor of a Continuing Resolution to fund the government through the remainder of FY2025. While not a perfect bill, it was necessary to prevent a shutdown, ensure military readiness, and provide stability for American families.

I remain committed to eliminating wasteful spending and achieving long-term fiscal reform. I also appreciate the leadership of Speaker Johnson and President Trump in securing this resolution, which allows us to focus on crafting a strong FY26 budget.

Official English Language Act of 2025

Image
Following President Trump’s executive order, I introduced legislation to permanently designate English as the official language of the United States. The bill mandates that all government functions be conducted in English, with reasonable exceptions, and implements a standardized English proficiency requirement for naturalization.

This legislation is not about limiting cultural heritage, but about unifying communication and ensuring clarity in federal governance. It's a move aimed at strengthening national identity, encouraging civic participation, and promoting opportunity through a shared language.

Legislation to Expel Chinese Police Operatives

Image
I have co-sponsored a new bill to remove illegal Chinese Communist Party (CCP) police outposts reportedly operating within the United States. These unauthorized outposts, linked to intimidation and surveillance of Chinese dissidents, violate our laws and our sovereignty.

This legislation equips law enforcement to identify and shut down such foreign interference, imposing penalties on those enabling it. We have a duty to protect political refugees and citizens from authoritarian overreach, and I’m committed to upholding our national security and human rights on American soil.

Urgent Call to Address China's Adoption Suspension

Image
After China abruptly suspended its intercountry adoption program in 2024, I joined bipartisan leaders in urging the Trump administration to resolve the issue. The sudden halt has left countless U.S. families and children—many with urgent medical needs—in limbo.

As co-chair of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption, I’ve pushed for diplomacy to finalize pending adoption cases. The emotional toll on families and the risk of children aging out of eligibility has created a humanitarian crisis, and I believe immediate diplomatic engagement is essential.

Meeting with HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Image
As Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee that funds the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), I met with HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to discuss priorities for the FY26 budget. Our conversation focused on fiscal responsibility and effective health programs that truly serve the American people.

This meeting was a constructive start to building collaboration between Congress and HHS. I appreciated Secretary Kennedy’s commitment to finding common ground and his vision to "Make America Healthy Again," and I’m hopeful for more cooperation in the future.

Deliver for Democracy Act Reintroduced

Image
I recently reintroduced the bipartisan Deliver for Democracy Act with Congressman Emanuel Cleaver. This legislation aims to improve the efficiency of the U.S. Postal Service, particularly in the timely delivery of periodicals and local newspapers. As outdated delivery practices continue to hinder access to local news, our bill would hold USPS accountable and ensure that you receive critical information on time.

The legislation includes key provisions such as a 95% on-time delivery requirement for periodicals, mandatory performance reporting, and a GAO study on pricing reforms. Supported by both parties and national media organizations, this bill underscores my commitment to preserving access to reliable, local journalism as a pillar of democracy.

Two North Alabama Students Accepted to U.S. Naval Academy

Image

I proudly announced the appointment of two outstanding students from our district—Natalie McCabe and Caleb Price—to the U.S. Naval Academy. Their nominations, based on academic excellence and dedication to service, were accepted for the Class of 2029.

Natalie and Caleb’s achievements reflect the values of leadership and patriotism that define the young people of Alabama. I congratulate them and their families, and I’m honored to support students pursuing service through our nation’s prestigious military academies.

Visiting Blount County

Image
I had the pleasure of meeting with members of the Blount County Commission over lunch at Porkey's BBQ in Hayden. This was a great opportunity to sit down with local leaders and hear directly about their priorities for the county and how I can best support them in Washington.

As many of you know, most of Blount County was previously part of the Sixth Congressional District and officially returned to the Fourth District in January. I'm honored to once again represent the people of Blount County and look forward to working closely with the Commission and local officials to address the needs of the community and keep Blount County thriving.

Walker County Farmers

Image
I had a productive lunch meeting with farmers in Walker County. We discussed the Farm Bill, my role on the Appropriations Committee, and the importance of supporting agriculture. We also talked about how the Trump Administration is prioritizing farmers more than the previous administration.

President Trump understands that our food comes from hardworking farmers—not just grocery store shelves. The farmers raised thoughtful questions about issues like DOGE, Chinese-owned land, tariffs, and other major topics currently being debated in Washington.

New Addition to Our Family

Image

This past Saturday, our daughter Mary Elliott married her fiancé, Grant Whitt, in a beautiful ceremony in Huntsville. It was a joy to gather with family and friends to celebrate such a special day in their lives. After their honeymoon, Mary Elliott and Grant will make their home in Huntsville. We couldn’t be happier for them and are so thankful that she found such a fine young man to share her life with.

Happy Easter

I will be back in touch the first Saturday in May. Until then, I hope you have a very blessed Easter holiday on April 20th. God bless you and your loved ones.

Sincerely,
