[1]U.S. Senator Chris Murphy
I'm Carolyn Booker, Cory Booker's mother.
I’ve said before: behind every successful child is an astonished parent. This week was certainly no exception.
I know Cory cares deeply about the people he represents, I know he is passionate about the future of this country, and I know (maybe better than anyone) that he can talk for hours on end — but I was still astonished about just how well he can demonstrate all of those things.
When Cory was sworn in as Senator, I reminded him of an old phrase: “It’s not titles that honor people, but people that honor titles.”
I have had the honor of witnessing and participating in historic moments in my life — from attending Fisk University during the civil rights era with Diane Nash and John Lewis, to participating in the sit-ins protesting segregation in Charlottesville and Nashville in the 1960s, to helping to plan the March on Washington in 1963 and hearing Dr. King tell the world about his dream.
I was honored to watch this historic moment, and to watch Cory bring more honor to his title.
Just like his speech, Cory’s campaigns and activism have never been about himself, but about lifting up others and their stories.
I am so proud of my son, and I am so grateful that so many in this country are still willing to stand up and speak out for the values we believe in.
With love,
Carolyn Booker
When Cory Booker filibustered on the Senate floor for 25 hours earlier this week, Chris Murphy stepped up to be his wingman for every hour of it — just like Cory did for Chris during his filibuster after the Pulse shooting.
Cory and Chris did this together because they understand the stakes of this moment, and they know people are desperate for a real opposition to Trump and Musk. But they need you to have their backs because taking on Trump and his billionaires in this moment comes with real risk.
Please consider splitting a donation between Cory Booker and Chris Murphy today to support their efforts to mobilize people. Your donation sends a powerful message to their colleagues in Washington that this is the kind of leadership and opposition you expect from your elected officials right now.
