Hi Friend,
Something special is happening in communities all across the country. Amid the Trump administration’s ruthless attacks, people are banding together to fight back. Through collective action, we’re defending our loved ones and demonstrating the true strength of our communities.
Here’s a little more information on what we’ve been up to at FFI, including some ways for you to get involved in the movement.
Preparing our communities Two months ago, FFI led an Emergency Preparedness and Know Your Rights training, attended by roughly 100 people! Emergency preparedness plans are critical, and having an action plan can make all the difference in your outcome should immigration agents seek to arrest you. Don’t forget to remember and share FFI’s hotline number (#9233 from inside detention).
Taking action Over 40 people joined our phone zap action last week to demand California Governor Gavin Newsom grant my pardon! Our community show of power led to hundreds of phone calls, letters, or petition signatures to the governor’s office.
It’s not too late to take action, and each step can be completed in about a minute!
Here are some other important action steps you can take:
Sign the petition to demand the release of Mahmoud Khalil
Tell Congress to say NO to more funding for ICE’s deportations and detention
Our friends at Detention Watch Network are planning a national day of action on April 17 – be on the lookout for more info about an in-person action near you!
FFI Team spotlight We’re thrilled to welcome two new members to the FFI team: Nichole Fields-Kyle, our new Finance & Operations Manager, and Jair Dudley, our new Operations Coordinator! Learn more about Nichole and Jair on the FFI website. We also want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Toria Somerville, who recently transitioned out of her role after more than five years with FFI. Thank you for everything, Toria!
In the news We continue to shape the narrative around immigration detention by engaging with the media and working toward our goal of educating the broader public. In the past weeks, FFI and our team has been cited in dozens of national media stories, including those from Forbes,CNN and CNN en español,TeenVogue, and Newsweek.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your continued support! If you haven't already, please subscribe to our newsletter to stay up to date on all our work.
In solidarity,
Laura Hernández Executive Director Freedom for Immigrants
