Earlier this week, Mike Johnson tried a shady, desperate, unprecedented procedural gambit to block Brittany Pettersen’s resolution allowing members of Congress who have newborns to vote remotely.

Johnson failed. Which is a big deal. Brittany Pettersen went toe-to-toe with the Speaker, and she won this battle. But what’s really wild is what happened next:

Instead of accepting defeat with some dignity, Speaker Johnson threw a tantrum and canceled all House action for the remainder of the week.

To which we say… OK! Johnson’s big plans this week were attacking judges who dare to rein in Trump’s abuses of power and making it harder for eligible Americans to vote.

In fact, one of the (many) problems with the SAVE Act is that it will make it harder for women who have changed their last name to cast a ballot — yet another way the current House leadership has no interest in serving anyone but the older, wealthy men who run the place.

We’re proud that Brittany refused to back down to Speaker Johnson — and the outcome this week showed what can happen when Democrats fight hard.

Not only did Brittany beat Johnson when he tried to block her resolution, she stopped the House from considering a series of bills that are out of touch with families’ needs and flat-out bad for the country.
