Dear Constituent,

I wish you a happy start to the Spring season and hope the kinder weather brings about a sense of renewal and new beginnings.

I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge that for myself and many others, this month was a solemn reminder to cherish the lives we are so graciously gifted, as our City bid a painful farewell to Anthony McCarthy – a longtime political communicator in Baltimore – upon his unfortunate passing

As my former communications aide and advisor, I witnessed firsthand how optimism and determination coexisted in Anthony's being.

I will miss his trust and wise counsel – he was a friend until the end.

Driven by Anthony's passion for delivering strong and powerful messages that have the ability to make change, I have been active across Maryland's 7th Congressional District to engage in dialogues with all of you on the draconian policies coming out of the Trump administration.

For instance, I recently participated in a Town Hall hosted by Baltimore County Councilman Pat Young at Woodlawn High School on Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and Social Security Administration cuts and its impact on the public.

I was pleased to see hundreds of people turn out at this Town Hall meeting to speak out in opposition to the chaos Donald Trump and Elon Musk have unleashed on our communities.

That same day, I also joined the Metropolitan Baltimore Council AFL-CIO Town Hall at IBEW Local 24 Union Hall to focus on the Trump administration's actions against federal workers.

It is so important to fight back for American families – because when we fight, we win!

In the halls of Congress, I am also combatting the Trump administration's shameful mission to eviscerate Black history from the American story.

I introduced a pair of bills to commemorate the life and legacy of African American Mess Attendant Doris ‘Dorie’ Miller.

During the attack on Pearl Harbor, Mess Attendant Miller manned an anti-aircraft gun and downed enemy planes, despite the fact that the racially segregated steward’s branch of the Navy was not trained to use anti-aircraft guns.

My bills seek to award the Medal of Honor and a Congressional Gold Medal to Mess Attendant Miller

This legislation's introduction comes in the wake of reports that most U.S. Department of Defense webpages chronicling the heroism of Mess Attendant Miller had been eliminated following a directive to remove diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) content from Pentagon platforms.

Dorie Miller protected America, and we are all the beneficiaries of his bravery.

March 26, 2025, also marked the one-year anniversary of the collapse of our beloved Francis Scott Key Bridge.

On the morning of the one-year anniversary of this tragedy, I gathered at the site where rescue and recovery updates were shared in the weeks following the collapse

Now a year removed from that fateful day, our hearts continue to go out to the families who lost their loved ones.

At that morning's Francis Scott Key Bridge Commemoration, I shared this sentiment directly with the grieving families who can never get enough of our condolences, our prayers, or our sympathies.

Later that evening, I participated in a commemorative service at Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Turner Station in honor of the victims, José Mynor López, Alejandro Hernández Fuentes, Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera, Maynor Yasir Suazo-Sandoval, Carlos Hernández and Miguel Ángel Luna González.

Those we lost must never be forgotten.

As we embark on this next month, I am ready to get back to work – on behalf of all Americans – to uplift our most vulnerable, protect our values, and fight to make life better wherever possible.

Sincerely,
