Yesterday, Senators Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff joined Senator Cory Booker in holding the Senate floor to stand up to President Trump, Elon Musk, and this chaotic administration.
As you may know, Senator Booker broke the record for time holding the Senate floor with his over 24-hour marathon speech. This demonstration gave voice to the millions of Americans being harmed and ignored by the Trump Administration.
Our own Senators Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff joined the filibuster-like event, both asking questions during the speech that allowed Senator Booker to take breaks.
Senator Padilla praised Booker for his passion and empathy and highlighted the consequences of the President’s reckless actions for healthcare, disaster aid, and the climate crisis.
Senator Schiff described how the Trump administration's actions are an attack on American democracy.
This is what it means to be California Strong. Standing up to bullies and standing with your friends.

CHIP IN $ >> [[link removed]]Here’s a little bit of what Adam Schiff said on the Senate floor, John:
“We look at institution after institution, and we see the guardrails of our democracy coming down. We see an assault on the rule of law unlike anything we have seen in modern history, maybe in the entire history of the United States of America, and why? Because they can. Because they feel that they can.”
And here’s a little bit of what Senator Padilla said:
“I know I’m angry with so much of what’s going on, and the American people have every right to be angry with what’s going on because none of what we’re seeing come out of the Trump White House is normal. But every day, this approach of ‘flooding the zone’ with more and more extreme actions runs the risk of making people grow numb to these attacks. And we certainly can’t surrender to the feeling of just being overwhelmed by their tactics. ”
We couldn’t agree more. We can’t let ourselves be overwhelmed. We can’t surrender.
That’s why the California Democratic Party has been hitting the pavement this past month. We arranged massive phone bank campaigns to hold Republicans accountable for trying to gut Medicaid to pay for billionaire tax cuts.
We even held a town hall in one of the most vulnerable GOP-held swing seats in the state.
But we’ve heard this call to action from Senator Booker and our own Senators Padilla and Schiff. We resolve to do even more.
