Today is International Fact-Checking Day — a day to recognize fact-checking journalists and everyone working to uphold accuracy and truth in our information ecosystem. Since launching this global initiative in 2016, Poynter’s International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) has seen firsthand how accurate information strengthens democracies and builds informed communities worldwide.

This work has never been more critical. Yet around the world, fact-checkers face increasing threats to hold the powerful to account. The challenges include political pressures, the shifting priorities on technology platforms, online harassment and funding demands.

Yet, they persevere. And you can stand with them ([link removed]) .

This year, IFCN is raising funds to send three exemplary journalists to our 2025 GlobalFact conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This landmark event brings fact-checkers, technology platforms, and civil society leaders together to collaborate, innovate, and find solutions to shared challenges.

Here’s what one journalist said about the impact of GlobalFact:

“Attending GlobalFact in Sarajevo back in 2023 was incredibly valuable to me. The connections I made there were priceless — I met all the fact-checking organizations from across the Middle East - North Africa region, which opened doors for us to work together on tackling disinformation in Arabic-speaking communities later on.

This teamwork was crucial in forming the IFCN Arabic Coalition, which has significantly strengthened our work in the region. I wouldn’t have had any of these opportunities if I hadn’t been able to attend.”

- Aws al-Saadi, founder of Tech4Peace, Iraq

Your gift today would have a ripple effect — it will directly fund scholarships for journalists to attend the annual event, as well as ensure they can bring critical insights back to their newsrooms. Every dollar raised today empowers them to help their communities separate fact from fiction.
