Democrats sue to block Trump bid to control elections
The Democratic Party sued President Donald Trump over his executive order to impose new voting rules. The Democrats claimed the order unconstitutionally overrides state control of elections. Two other lawsuits challenging the order, or provisions of it, were filed by advocacy groups this week.
House panel looks to stop judges from blocking Trump’s power grab
Today House Judiciary subcommittees debated whether the record number of federal court blocks against Trump’s executive orders constitutes “judicial overreach.” Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) argued it’s the courts’ inherent duty to uphold the Constitution.
Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) said “If you try to eliminate birthright citizenship, jail people for free speech, slash funding, use Cold War-era regulations to do mass deportations, then yeah. You're going to get nationwide injunctions. So maybe if you don't like the injunctions, stop doing the illegal stuff."
