Friend, earlier this month, the Trump administration announced a new rule forcing undocumented immigrants to either register with the U.S. government — or face criminal charges, and detention and deportation. And now, we are suing.

The intent behind this rule is as brazen as it is cruel. The Trump administration seeks to criminalize, entrap, and spread more fear and confusion in our communities — and we're doing everything in our power to stop it.

This rule harkens back to shameful episodes in U.S. history of government-sanctioned discrimination against immigrants and people of color, including the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II and the targeting of immigrants from Muslim-majority countries after 9/11. History has shown us the harmful, lasting consequences of forced registries that tee up entire communities to be targeted for detention and deportation. We won’t let history repeat itself.

That’s why we’re suing alongside our co-counsel, the American Immigration Council, The American Civil Liberties Union’s Immigrants’ Rights Project, the American Immigration Lawyers Association, RFK Human Rights, and CASA, to stop this rule in its tracks. We are proud to represent The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), CASA, United Farm Workers (UFW), and Make the Road New York (MRNY).

We refuse to stand by while immigrant communities are discriminatorily targeted and torn apart.
