Friend — our triple match expires at midnight tonight. This deadline is an important one. Here’s the situation:
Our health and safety are at risk from Trump administration actions to give polluters free rein and turn a blind eye to science and the law. As many as 1,115 scientists who work at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) — the people who keep our water safe to drink and our air clean to breathe — are at risk of losing their jobs as Trump continues to recklessly dismantle our government.
According to a shocking report in the New York Times, the Trump administration is about to make sweeping cuts to the EPA’s Office of Research and Development, effectively dismantling the agency’s scientific arm. These layoffs come right on the heels of EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin threatening staff reductions for all kinds of positions — like the people who monitor our air and water quality and enforce the rules against polluting executives trying to cut corners for a buck.
This isn’t about reining in the EPA’s budget — it’s about taking a sledgehammer to scientific findings that are inconvenient for corporate polluters.
The effects of this cut would go far beyond the scientists themselves. The Trump administration is targeting the people who provide essential services that protect public health and safety day in and day out. The effects on our communities, our future, could reverberate for years to come.
But these layoffs aren’t final. Not yet.
There is still time for us to apply pressure to keep these critical workers at the EPA and disrupt the Trump administration’s attacks on the environment, public health, and our climate.
Thanks for standing with us, Friend. If we keep going and keep fighting, we can win — all thanks to your help.
