WIRED just reported:

Elon Musk is planning to swap out all of the software that makes our Social Security system run, and roll it out without adequate testing. When your Social Security check doesn’t show up, this will be why.

This “move fast and break things” attitude risks our Social Security system’s total integrity. We need Congress to step up and stop it.

An SSA technologist warned:

One of the big risks is not underpayment or overpayment per se but [it’s also] not paying someone at all and not knowing about it. The invisible errors and omissions.

Ordinarily, on the rare occasion that there is a payment error, the beneficiaries can call Social Security’s 800 number or visit one of Social Security’s field offices. But Musk is firing staff who answer the 800 number and closing offices, leaving seniors who miss their checks with nowhere to turn.
