In a health policy brief released this week, Franz Castro and coauthors discuss how improving state-level disability data is a necessary step for advancing health equity ([link removed] ) .
Through their research, the authors note:
- To improve disability data level at a state level, they recommend using a minimum, standardized set of questions that assess disability as a core demographic element.
- By incorporating diverse data sources, this allows for the examination of intersectional disparities for people with disabilities from other historically marginalized groups.
- At both state and federal levels, there is a need to strengthen regulations around disability data and establish funding mechanisms for disability data collection.
