LCV

Friend — The EPA has just announced that it will rescind dozens of environmental protections, bragging that it’s making the “biggest deregulatory move in U.S. history.” Here’s what this means:

  • They’re allowing coal-fired power plants to spew more mercury into the air.
  • They’re allowing the oil and gas industry to dump toxic wastewater into the environment.
  • They’re letting chemical facilities off the hook from having plans in place to avoid explosions and other disasters.
  • They’re purging experts from the EPA’s Science Advisory Board.
  • They’re gutting requirements for power plants to report and limit greenhouse gas emissions.
  • They’re allowing even more tailpipe pollution from cars and trucks.
  • And that’s just the start.

The environmental movement must respond. LCV is on the front lines of this fight, leading campaigns to protect climate safeguards and fight actions like these that threaten our health, our communities, and our climate. We’re spreading the word to the public, organizing rallies, driving calls and emails to congressional offices, encouraging members of Congress to speak out, and driving thousands of comments from folks like you opposing these actions. Through the end of the month, a group of donors has agreed to TRIPLE MATCH all donations to support this critical work.

“We are driving a dagger straight into the heart of the climate change religion …”

— Lee Zeldin
EPA Administrator

Truly critical environmental protections are at risk, Friend. Here are just a few examples of the harms Trump’s EPA aims to inflict, all to enrich their billionaire buddies:

  • A worsening climate crisis: Trump’s EPA is moving to rescind historic tailpipe emissions standards for cars and trucks, end limits on the use of climate-damaging hydrofluorocarbons, and officially declare that climate change benefits society.
  • Dirtier air and water: Administrator Zeldin announced that the EPA will “[redirect] enforcement resources” away from fighting pollution and towards “[relieving] the economy of unnecessary bureaucratic burdens,” while abolishing offices that police toxic pollution.
  • Massive giveaways to polluters: The Trump administration is fighting to rescind limits on toxic pollution from fossil fuel facilities, end requirements to monitor and report greenhouse gas emissions, and stop requiring refineries to safeguard against chemical accidents.

We’ve set a goal to raise $25,000 before midnight on March 31 to help fight these dirty, harmful policies. But the truth is that we need your help to meet that goal. Join other LCV members to bring us over the top and keep up the fight.

Thanks for everything you do, Friend. I’m grateful to have you in our movement.

Onward,

Chris Brooks
