Friend, I wanted to follow up on my earlier email and make sure
you didn’t miss the chance to sign our petition against the SAVE Act.
[ [link removed] ]→ Tell Congress to protect our voting rights and vote NO on the SAVE
Act.
The SAVE Act has been all over the news lately and here’s why: House
Republicans are attempting to pass legislation to restrict eligible
American voters in order to keep people from voting. The SAVE Act would
require all eligible Americans to provide proof of citizenship by
presenting a passport or birth certificate when registering to vote.
Not only will this bill burden military voters, tribal voters, rural
voters and survivors of natural disasters, it will also disenfranchise
millions of women voters. Are you one of the nearly 69 million married
women in the US who changed your name when you married? Is your married
name on your birth certificate? No? Then you won’t be able to use that to
register to vote.
We’re expecting this bill to be brought to the House Floor next week so
it’s important that we speak out and call out this harmful bill that will
create barriers that weaken our democracy and silence voters.
[ [link removed] ]→ The SAVE Act is a dangerous anti-voter bill and it will not make our
elections safer. Urge your members of Congress to vote NO on this terrible
bill.
Together we can make change!

Dear Friend,
Did you get married and change your last name? If so, Republicans in
Congress are trying to make it harder for you to vote. In case you missed
it, the “Safeguard American Voter Eligibility” (SAVE) Act has been
reintroduced in Congress, BUT the name is deceiving because it will do
nothing to make elections safer.
We need your help to tell Congress to vote NO on the SAVE Act!
[ [link removed] ]→ Tell Congress to protect our voting rights and vote NO on the SAVE
Act.
Here’s what's happening: Extremist House Republicans are attempting to
pass legislation to restrict eligible American voters in order to keep
people from voting. The SAVE Act would require all eligible Americans to
provide proof of citizenship by presenting a passport or birth certificate
when registering to vote.
And this is in addition to voter ID laws that already exist in most
states, so it’s not needed at all.
The SAVE Act is deceptively named because its purpose is to disenfranchise
millions of eligible voters. Right now over 21.3 million people lack easy
access to documents that prove citizenship like a passport, U.S. birth
certificate, naturalization certificate, or citizenship certificate. [1]
This is more complicated than it seems at first…
Are you one of the nearly 69 million married women in the US who changed
your name when you married? Is your married name on your birth
certificate? No? Then you won’t be able to use that to register to vote.
In this country, the voters pick elected officials, not the other way
around, but the SAVE Act attempts to do just that - make it harder for
voters to vote. It has a disproportionate impact on Black, Indigenous,
Hispanic, Asian, and other people of color, married people who have
changed their names, and young and elderly people are more likely to have
problems accessing these documents.
The bill also burdens military voters, tribal voters, rural voters,
survivors of natural disasters and the millions of married women in
America who have changed their names.
Additionally, members of the LGBTQ+ community – particularly Trans
Americans who have gone through the process of changing their legal name
and therefore can no longer use their birth certificate for proof of
eligibility and citizenship – would be impacted. [ [link removed] ]
If passed, many voters wouldn’t be able to register to vote with just
their driver’s license, they would need an Enhanced Driver's License or
other forms of documentation like a U.S. passport or birth certificate.
[ [link removed] ] This does nothing to strengthen our elections, it simply causes
confusion and chaos.
[2]→ Help fight back by contacting your Member of Congress and tell them
to vote NO on the SAVE Act.
But wait, there’s more. The SAVE Act would threaten mail and online
registration, making it impossible for Americans to register to vote by
mail, and ending voter registration drives nationwide. To make the point
even clearer, more than seven million Americans registered to vote by mail
in 2022 and nearly 11 million Americans registered to vote online. [ [link removed] ] No
part of the SAVE Act is beneficial to voters. Mandating states conduct
voter purges, imprisoning election workers, limiting access to the polls
with restrictive voter ID requirements; this is bad.
[3]→ The SAVE Act is a dangerous anti-voter bill and it will not make our
elections safer. Urge your members of Congress to vote NO on this terrible
bill.
What it will do is present even more barriers for low-income voters and
voters from marginalized communities to participate in elections by
requiring citizenship documentation. It will impact working families,
older voters, and women who’ve changed their last name and those who’ve
lost their documents due to natural disasters.
To put it plainly, it will create barriers that weaken our democracy and
silence voters.
This is why we are asking for your help in urging Congress to vote NO on
the SAVE Act.
Thanks for all you do,
