This week, a federal court in Washington, D.C. ruled in our favor, finding that a 73-million-acre offshore oil and gas lease sale in the Gulf of Mexico violated the law..

In short, the oil industry lost, and communities and wildlife that dwell in the Gulf of Mexico won.

In March of 2023, we sued the federal government for holding a massive oil and gas sale while failing to consider the risks. A federal court ruled in our favor, agreeing that that the government fell short in laying out the negative impact the sale would have on critically endangered whales and climate change. We also argued that the sale would force more pollution from drilling operations onto communities living in the Gulf region.

While we take a moment to celebrate this hard-earned victory, we know that our work is not done. Last month, Earthjustice filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration after it reversed protections against offshore oil drilling for millions of acres of irreplaceable public waters.
The waters at risk include areas along every coastline in the United States — where 40% of Americans reside.

This is an illegal move that puts Americans in danger. We stopped a similar attempt during Trump’s first administration, and we’re prepared to do it again.

The Trump administration is relentlessly attacking the environment. We are fighting back in court, but we need your support to face the scale of attacks that are coming.DONATE : [link removed]
