A Note From the Desk of Congresswoman Letlow
Congress has been busy lately with votes on key issues and committee hearings. As always, I’ve most valued visiting with Louisianans and listening to their priorities and concerns.
Two months into President Trump’s second term, we’ve seen significant accomplishments, particularly as it relates to securing our southern border. I was also happy to see the Trump Administration take swift action to provide assistance to farmers, in keeping with legislation I passed through Congress at the end of 2024.
I want to take a moment to congratulate our LSU Women’s Basketball team for advancing in the NCAA Tournament, where they will take on NC State in the Sweet Sixteen tonight. Go Tigers!
Please feel free to always reach out to my office directly when you have questions, comments, or concerns. Our team is always accessible through our website by clicking here. We are here to serve you!
Sincerely,
Julia Letlow, Ph.D.
Member of Congress
Spending Time With Constituents
While in Louisiana and Washington, I keep an active schedule of constituent meetings to ensure that I always have the interests of our district top of mind. In the last few weeks, I’ve had numerous conversations about energy issues, health care, and supporting our state’s economy.
Strengthening Our Farm Economy
Near the end of last year, Congress passed mine and Rep. Trent Kelly’s FARM Act which provides direct assistance to farmers of qualifying commodities facing economic hardship. I am deeply grateful to the Trump Administration for swiftly moving to get this relief into the hands of our farmers, who grow our nation’s food supply but have been hit hard by rising expenses and falling commodity prices. This support will help our farmers sustain their operations and prepare for the upcoming harvest, and is targeted toward those at the heart of our food supply. Eligible producers can now apply for relief in-person at their local FSA office, online at fsa.usda.gov/ecap, or wait for pre-filled applications to come in the mail from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). USDA is in charge of implementation, and you can find more information on their website at fsa.usda.gov/ecap. I recently had the chance to meet Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins, and took the time to thank her for looking out for our farmers!
Securing Our Southern Border
President Trump promised to reinstate his successful immigration policies in a second term, and so far we have seen clear evidence of the effectiveness of border security. In just two months, President Trump’s policies have created a massive decline in illegal immigration. Total border encounters were down to 11,000 in February from a shockingly high 189,00 in February 2024. While there is more work left to do, much progress has been made in reversing the Biden Border Crisis. I want to continue to provide more border security funding, construct a wall, and prevent crime and deadly fentanyl from being imported into our country.
Join the Congressional Art Competition
My office is currently accepting submissions for the 2025 Congressional Art Competition, with a deadline of April 4, 2025. If you are a student in Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District, don’t miss this chance to show off your creativity! You can learn more about submission requirements and other rules on my website at letlow.house.gov/art.
Supporting Education and Teacher Training
As a former educator, I understand that our teachers are on the frontlines of providing a quality education for Louisiana students. That’s why I recently joined with Democratic Rep. Suzanne Bonamici from Oregon to file a resolution honoring National Board Certified Teachers, as part of an effort to encourage teachers to strengthen their skills by pursuing advanced certifications. House Resolution 218 encourages administrators, school districts, and states to provide increased incentives and support for educators to achieve this distinction.
