President's Message

I'm pleased to announce that NASN has named eight exceptional professionals for induction into the National Academy of School Nursing. Join us for the induction ceremony at the NASN2025 Conference in Austin, Texas, to celebrate the remarkable achievements and impact of these NASN Fellows.

At NASN, we continue advocating for every student's health and success. School nurses witness the transformative power of education systems in shaping a child's development daily, and we are deeply concerned about the potential implications of the Executive Order directing the closure of the U.S. Department of Education. Read our statement.

NASN believes that diverse perspectives and inclusive practices are vital to addressing the needs of all communities, fostering innovation, and ensuring that all voices are valued. Are you passionate about Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in school nursing? Our new DEI Special Interest Group (SIG) welcomes all NASN members, providing a safe and supportive space to explore and address biases that impact both personal and professional growth.

Managing Chronic Health Conditions

Supporting Student Mental and Behavioral Health

Twenty-three percent of children ages 3–17 are diagnosed with behavioral or mental health conditions. School nurses are often the first to recognize and address these challenges, collaborating with school staff and external providers to support students' emotional well-being. Visit NASN's Mental Health page to locate NASN position statements, documents, professional development, and more to support upstream approaches to improve the mental well-being of students, including the NCPD program Elevating the Role of School Nurses on School Behavioral Healthcare Teams.

With more than 40% of school-aged children impacted by chronic or mental health conditions, school nurses play a critical role in improving attendance, reducing health disparities, and supporting student success. Join us in advocating for healthier, safer learning environments.

Improving School Community & Student Health

Contribute to Research and Policies on School-Based Opioid Use and Prevention

NASN is collaborating with the Foundation for Opioid Response Efforts (FORE) to gain a deeper understanding of district and school staff perspectives regarding the role, responsibilities, and status of school-based opioid prevention and response, including naloxone administration. Please provide your feedback on this survey by April 11, 2025.
